ZOTUNG REFUGEE CATHOLIC LEARNING CENTRE
July 2024
At the tail end of our renovations, long time volunteer Daniel Ngiam generously painted a mural in our new nursery play area. The mural adds colors to our school and helps bring the freshly redesigned space to life. We hope the mural, reading “NURSERY” at the top, gives the youngest students a sense of belonging at our school.
NEW NURSERY MURAL
The children in the painting reflect our own community, who often have limited opportunities to play and be at leisure. The joy of the children in the mural encourages playfulness, curiosity, and exploration at ZRCLC. Watching over the children are guardian angels in the sky that symbolize protection and shelter. The angels are a reminder to the students that they are safe to learn, smile, and grow at our centre.
Located next to the tree is a green peafowl, the national bird of Myanmar— representing our community’s Burmese roots and heritage. Just as a peacock unfurls its feathers in a magnificent fashion, we believe our students can beautifully unravel their talents and gifts through learning.
The centerpiece of the mural is a padauk tree, the tree of Myanmar. Our students came together to paint the leaves with their thumbprints. The fun activity allowed our students to make a creative and permanent mark on our school. The mural will be a living fixture in our school, where new students can add their own fingerprints as they join the ZRCLC family.
Below is the timelapse of the mural being painted. See if you can catch our students observing the creation of this new vibrant part of our school!
Special thanks to Daniel Ngiam and his father and all our students for making this painting possible!
