SAMUEL NGIAM

REGIS HIGH SCHOOL, NEW YORK

For 2 consecutive years, Samuel and his brother flew to KL during their summer breaks to teach at ZRCLC. Undeterred by COVID, the 11th year grader is now part of our online teaching crew. "The kids constantly amaze and inspire me. I can now engage them year round from the other side of the world. I am excited to continue being a part of such an incredible cause"

SHERLYN KHONG

FORMER TEACHER , SINGAPORE

Sherlyn is a former school teacher who has been a learning facilitator for many years. "The children at ZRCLC are curious and always eager to learn. It has been a joy teaching them in the past and I am looking forward to our online lessons  together."

Thank you for taking time in reading this appeal. We appreciate if you could help us share this appeal to family and friends. God Bless!

Special thanks to Ms Donna Tan who has agreed to sponsor our subscription of broadband internet for 24 months starting September 2020

INTERESTED IN BEING AN ONLINE VOLUNTEER?

.

If you have some free time in the comfort of your home to help teach our children online, we would love to hear from you.

How does this work?

You will be assigned 1 student between the ages of 8-15 years, whom you will interact via video conferencing for about 45 mins, once a week

You will journey with your assigned student and help them improve their English communications skills guided by a simple syllabus that will be provided to you. You may choose anytime, Mon-Fri between 10am - 3pm (M'sia Time) Ideally you are able commit 10 sessions at a time.

DANIEL NGIAM
REGIS HIGH SCHOOL, NEW YORK

.

Like his brother, Daniel too taught at ZRCLC during his summer breaks "Having witnessed personally the students’ passion for learning despite of their lack of means, I am excited to be able to continue working with them remotely. I had a ton of fun interacting with the children, and in return, I have learned a lot from them"

With the current COVID restrictions, our learning centre is only open full time for our pre-schoolers (3-6 year old). As of 7 February 2021, we have been advised by UNHCR, that will it is still unclear as to when in-person classes for our older children can resume.

.

Hence to ensure that the rest of our children continue to be fully engaged, we have embarked on our online program for our children

Introducing ZRCLC 2.0

Since September 2020 we have introduced video conferencing to supplement our teaching.

Our small online classes will allow for more focus and attention for each child. It will also allow us to cast a wider net for volunteers who can be anyone from around world!

Education Sets needed

Based on our past experience of requesting for used devices, we have decided that it be best that we purchase new entry level laptops/tablets to run the program

The estimated cost of each Education Set (tablet + headset & software) is approximately RM800 (SGD $270) . Currently we still need another 8 sets for the remaining of our students
